When Daniel, from Daily Blog Tips, asked me to write a post about the year in review for his group writing project, I knew I wanted to write about the top 3 opportunities that were presented this year. I believe that the year 2009 will go down in history as one of the most challenging, financially and otherwise, during the past half century. From an online marketer’s perspective, 2009 was a year for great opportunities for those who took action. I believe the most exciting and promising of these opportunities came when Tracy Childers and Stu McLaren created the membership site plugin for WordPress blogs.
Being able to set up membership sites using just a plugin created a level playing field for everyone doing business on the internet in 2009. For the first time since I came online in 2005, I was finally able to compete with businesses making 500K a year and more in revenue. Those people could afford thousands of dollars to set up and maintain a membership site. We can all do it now for less than one hundred dollars. I have four membership sites and new people are joining every day to learn what I am teaching. My areas of expertise are affiliate marketing, article marketing, and building an online business based upon your passion, experience, and interests.
The second opportunity comes from the willingness of so many talented people to teach new entrepreneurs how to build an online business. This was simply not the case in years past. If you are a newbie, my recommendation is to find someone who will take the time to teach you how to get started online. There are many mentors who offer weekly webinars, ongoing teleseminars, regular trainings, and a membership site filled with valuable resources. These people will form a mastermind with their students, allowing you to connect with people you would otherwise not have met. I am a former classroom teacher, so being able to teach people from around the world is a dream come true for me.
Finally, the third opportunity is to attend several live events throughout the year. This gives you a chance to learn from master teachers and to meet the people who may well be your future joint venture partners. Every time I attend one of these events I am amazed at just how much personal and professional growth is involved. I have a complete strategy of how I combine learning and networking to make these events a win-win for everyone involved.
My motto has been to never, never, never give up. This comes from Sir Winston Churchill. Thinking about this when times were tough and I wanted to quit has helped me to build the online empire I now enjoy. You can do the same thing. Think about these 3 opportunities – setting up a membership site, working with a mentor, and attending live events – and plan your strategy for a successful 2010.

This is a great list. I have benefited from the membership sites I am in and webinars. Looking to add a membership site of my own and go to a live event. These are part of my goals for 2010.
Thanks for letting me know about this writing project. It was fun! In fact I just had to include you as one part of my blog. I have learned so much from you. Thanks for being part of the best for me in 2009.
