Keyword research to determine which words to use to help people find you does not have to be time consuming or complicated. You will want to use the exact words and phrases used by your prospects when they are searching for what you do on the Internet. The question is always how to find out what these words are. I will explain how you can use Twitter, surveys, and forums to research your keywords.
As soon as I have a new topic I am interested in pursuing, I go straight to Twitter for my research. First, I ask my followers what they know about the topic. I did this recently with raw food. I was going to put together a product to teach people why raw food could be a healthy alternative when they need to lose a few pounds or cleanse their body of toxins, but I am definitely not an expert in this field. Within minutes I was receiving feed back on my request. With this particular topic there were many people who were extremely knowledgeable and willing to share their knowledge. See what happens when you ask a question on Twitter about your topic.
You can always ask your list to take a survey to help you out. There are several places that offer this service at no cost, such as Survey Monkey. I recommend asking 3 to 5 questions only, and giving those who participate a small gift for doing so. Ask them what words or phrases they might type into Google’s search area if they were looking for more information on your topic. This will give you a better idea of phrases you might be completely overlooking in your niche.
Forums are also an excellent place to do research. Find one or two forums where the people are interested in your general topic. Search through the posts and see what they are talking about. You may want to post your own question or comment to get some additional feedback.
There are so many ways to locate the keywords you will need to achieve top ranking on Google and to position yourself as an expert in your niche. Spend some time each day to do your research and to investigate what others in your niche are writing about. Visit forums to see what people say when they are in a relaxed environment. Prepare a survey and send it to your list to get their feedback and input. Go to Twitter and ask questions about your topic. All of these techniques are extremely effective with your keyword research.
