I was reading a post this morning by Ruthan Brodsky over at Balance Your Health. She had written about food allergies and sensitivities and I decided to write about it on one of my blogs, Healthy Eating. This was also a good time to trackback to her post and explain this process to my online writing students who are reading this blog. I will attempt to explain how this process works in simple to understand terms.
First, I read a post on Ruthan’s blog that I knew would be of interest to my readers. When I wrote my post I included a link to the exact post I was referring to on her blog. This is called a permalink and can be found by simply hovering over the title of the post. Then I left a trackback to her blog by including the trackback link. Because she is using Typepad, the trackback url is found at the end of her post. When I send a trackback it pings her blog and lets her know that I have posted something that references her original post. It is the blogosphere’s way of notifying you that someone else has referenced something you have written.
Email me if this still does not make sense. If you ca get in the habit of commenting, linking, and trackbacking to other blogs regularly, more people will find you and you will build relationships online.
