Getting started online is not as difficult as it once was. The technology is much easier these days, and things that were not possible when I started my Internet business in 2006 are now readily available. Of everything that has changed during the past several years, I believe that the ability to use WordPress as both a blogging and a website platform has been the most helpful. You can upload your files right from within the dashboard, add your autoresponder code to start building your list, and start posting regularly to turn your site into a content management system. I’m using Marketers CMS as my theme. It was created and developed by Armand Morin.
It used to be that you had to use an FTP (file transfer protocol) program in order to move files from your hard drive onto your site. This is something that can be learned easily enough, but it will take longer and require a few more steps. Instead, you can write a short report to use as your free giveaway when someone is opting into your site, and then add it to your site by simply uploading it to your media library. This is just one example of what’s possible.
Building a list of names and email addresses of people who are interested in your topic is crucial to your online business success. This can be done by adding a text widget to your site and copying the code generated by your autoresponder service. Every time someone visits your site and decides to opt in to your list, their name and email address will be added to your database. You can do this yourself, without the need for a webmaster. This will save you both time and money. The service I recommend for beginners is Aweber (get your first 30 days for only $1).
Every time you write an article, post to your blog, write a short report, or do any kind of content creation you are helping people to find you online. Using WordPress as your platform makes this even easier as you learn more and more about SEO (search engine optimization) over time. You will choose the keywords (words and phrases people type in to the search engines when they are looking for information on a particular topic) that are related to your niche topic and include them on your site.
Setting up your sites is easier than ever now, and you are only limited by your imagination as to what you can achieve. There has never been a better time to get started with your own online business.
