I was reading Lynn Jordan’s blog, Authors Tools Blog, and she has a great post about Google Alerts. I teach this in my classes, but have not blogged about it here.
A Google Alert is a way for you to know when your name or other phrase is mentioned anywhere on the internet. The service is free from Google, but only gives you a limited number of results. If you have an online business it may be best to pay for the more extensive search that is available.
You will want to set an alert for your name, but don’t forget about the keyword phrases you use for your business. If they are too general you will get too many alert notifications, so be as specific as possible. This has allowed me to connect with more people and see what is being written about my niche.
Go over to http://google.com/alerts and set up your alerts today. I receive mine through email daily, but you can choose to receive it at other time intervals.
