Consistency for Entrepreneurs…Is It Overrated?
This is a guest post from Cheryl A Major on the topic of consistency for entrepreneurs. Be sure to take a look at her book, Eat Your Blues Away: “Disappearing” Depression by Changing How You Eat.
While I become a giant presence on the internet in the field of health and nutrition, I am still involved full time in my boots-on-the-ground practice as a Realtor®. I have 30 years of “practice” in this field, and there is always more to learn. Because as a Realtor®, I am an independent contractor, I am an entrepreneur in this field too. I can assure you consistency for entrepreneurs is important for all of us, both in the business of real estate and in the business of healthy eating!
One of the challenges while building my online presence as a health guru is being consistent in my posting, creating and filming my TV show, creating products, etc. Real estate is usually pretty seasonal where I live here in New England, however this year has been atypical. I was counting on a slow-down in real estate to give me more time to ramp up again online, and instead, I have been busier than I’ve been in years. I admit with disappointment that I haven’t always met the challenge of keeping all the balls in the air, but it’s an interesting study when I step back and evaluate.
Consistency for Entrepreneurs with Diet
The reason I bring this challenge of being consistent up to you is that I find being consistent with my diet can be challenging as well. I use the word “diet” not as a term to indicate I’m trying to lose weight, as I don’t advocate dieting in the traditional sense of the word. “Diet for me is about how you eat every day. It’s a permanent thing, not something you do for a few weeks and then change. This doesn’t mean you have to join a food monastery however. You can still occasionally enjoy the foods you love that don’t necessarily serve your best future health…you just can’t eat them every day.
So, what in the world does all this have to do with how productive you are as an entrepreneur? Is consistency for entrepreneurs really crucial to our success?
Did you know the way you eat, that is what you eat, can affect not just your long and short term health, but can also play a very key role in your brain function, your alertness, your focus, and your production? It’s true, and this is how the subject of consistency comes full circle and front and center in this discussion. To be an effective entrepreneur and to function at your very highest level of focus and production, eating well gives you a significant advantage!
Consistency in the foods you eat; eating a balanced diet that avoids sugar and simple carbohydrates that immediately turn to sugar and that provides adequate amounts of healthy fats and sufficient protein will enable you to function at your maximum level of production. Consistency with food and diet will support you as you strive to be consistent as an entrepreneur. It’s a holistic thing, and just as your heart and lungs don’t function independently of each other, so your diet, your production and your success as an entrepreneur are all intertwined.
