How to Position Yourself as an Expert with Joint Ventures
Joint ventures come in many shapes and sizes, and most recently I created a product that is actually a joint venture opportunity for those who join and take action to participate. It’s called Position Yourself as an Expert and came about when I created a product over the weekend during my live event in Los Angeles in October of 2017. The idea is to allow those who chose to share how they have positioned or are positioning themselves as an expert to recount their process and include the details in a short report.
This type of joint venture can be a tricky one, in that most people tend to get excited about an opportunity at first, and then their enthusiasm wanes as time goes on. Also, many of the people attending my event that weekend lacked confidence and did not understand that you position yourself as an expert slowly, learning and implementing something new each day.
But I am not one to give up easily, if at all, and I was determined to launch this product and pull the information out of those who joined. I put this challenge out to my list and soon more joint venture partners came aboard to participate. This is what I learned from this experience, and how you can create something similar for your community.
- Make any joint venture opportunity a win-win. We all look for “what’s in it for me”, whether it’s business related or personal. By making it clear from the very beginning what is in it for each person, from their perspective, you are far more likely to get people to come aboard. With this project I needed to provide a template for the report I wanted them to write, instead of only sharing examples of completed reports I had written previously for my business.
- Explain in great detail how everyone will benefit. In this case the giant benefit is exposure to a community of active entrepreneurs and small business owners. But that may sound vague to those who are not used to promoting themselves or focusing on credibility and visibility as a means to get their message out to the world.
- Promote your joint venture forever. It’s easy to move on to new products and courses and promotions, but once you have taken the time to create a joint venture with one or more people, make sure to continue to promote it regularly. In this case, it’s my goal to promote this “Position Yourself as an Expert” training at least twice a month for the next year in order to truly pick up some momentum.
You can position yourself as an expert in many ways, and creating a joint venture opportunity with others is an excellent example of how this works. I would encourage you to take full advantage of any situation in which someone who has been an entrepreneur for over a decade (that would be me!) is excited about sharing you and your topic and message with the world. This is rare and will catapult you to the next level in your business much faster than if you were to attempt it on your own.
