Connie Ragen Green: Theme 2018

Connie ragen Green Theme 2018Connie Ragen Green Theme Words for 2018

It’s that time of year again. Of course, I am referring to the last week of the year, where you take time to reflect on what is working in your life and business and what you would like to improve and change during the coming year. Each year I like to take on the challenge of a new theme, and for 2018 this will be one that resonates with where I am in my life and where I wish to go from this day forward. You may wish to read here what I posted about my Connie Ragen Green Theme last year.

During this past year (2017) I became aware that Jon Gordon (the first person I followed online and the first list I joined back in 2005) had started something called “Get One Word” where he chooses just one word that will inspire him during the coming year.

Jon says:

Each year I pick a word for the New Year that will inspire me to be my best. I started this practice seven years ago and as you may know I wrote One Word with Dan Britton and Jimmy Page to help people discover their word for the year. Dan and Jimmy invented the “One Word” practice and have been doing it with their families for over twenty years.

My words over the years have been: PURPOSE, SURRENDER, SERVE, PRAY, RISE, FORGIVE and STILL.

Each word has molded and shaped me to become a better person, father, husband, writer and communicator. Looking back I know my One Word chose me more often than I chose it.

It’s also a fun team building exercise and much more effective than New Year’s resolutions. 9 out of 10 people will fail with their resolutions but One Word sticks. No goals. No resolutions. Just One Word that helps you write and create a yearly chapter in your life story. It’s powerful.

I also follow Chris Brogran, CEO of Owner Media Group, and he has his own way of choosing words – he chooses three – that will lead him towards his goals. This is what he says in his post entitled My 3 Words for 2018:

How do you Choose Your Words?

The words that you select for My 3 Words are meant to serve as lighthouses to guide you through foggy moments. To that end, it’s important to pick words that have enough meaning that you’ll snap your perspective into alignment with them and build out your days, weeks, months, and year accordingly.

What does that look like?

Let’s say you want to lose 30 pounds in 2018. Maybe one of your words is “green.” It reminds you to fill half your plate with nutritious green vegetables and fresh fruits at every meal, and to make your snacks more healthy, as well.

Maybe you need to focus on your creative projects, like that podcast you’ve been threatening to launch. The word “focus” isn’t bad, but maybe the word “voice” is better, as in “people will benefit from hearing your voice.”

No matter which words you select, make sure they have personal meaning to you that can guide your choices of how you spend your time and which efforts you focus on.

So these are two examples of what this concept looks like. I decided that the Connie Ragen Green Theme needed to be unique to me, so I decided to choose one main word that reminds me of who I am, and then three words that will remind me of what I wish to achieve. This combination feels right for me at this point in my life and business.

My ONE word for 2018 is SERVICE. Make sure it’s always about serving others besides myself.

My THREE words for 2018 are:

LEVERAGE – Use what I have instead of looking for something new. I teach others how to “leverage the power of the internet”, and that includes leveraging the talents, skills, inventory, trainings, and the people you already have in your tool box. This means looking inward for the answers you are looking for in your life and business.

POTENTIAL – Again, I’ll be working on using and exercising the talents and skills I already possess and then reaching for my own highest potential in everything I attempt this year. An increase of productivity, learning, and then implementing 1% a day, as taught by Brian Tracy for decades now, can help you and I to achieve and exceed our highest potential.

SHIFT – Every change begins first in your mind with your thoughts, then in your actions by your words and deeds, and finally in your results and manifestations. Every day this word will be a reminder for me to shift my thoughts and actions so that I will create the outcomes and results I am looking for in 2018 and beyond using the Connie Ragen Green Theme approach.

Yes, I have gone to three words instead of four, as that strategy did not serve me as well as I had hoped. Sometimes less is indeed more. And I’ve said goodbye to the alliteration that became a part of my planning each year. My motto continues to be “Keep It Simple” and I’m finally following my own advice in a bigger way.

It is my hope that you think about my Connie Ragen Green Theme for 2018 and come up with your own words that will serve you well this year and beyond. Please leave me a comment below and let’s connect further.

And if you’re wondering which word Mari Smith, the first person I’d ever heard of doing this type of thing instead of making resolutions, has chosen for 2018, it is the word LUMINARY. This word is defined as a person who inspires or influences others, especially one prominent in a particular sphere. I can’t wait to see what happens for Mari this year with this word.

I have been doing something similar. I like to set overall goals for the year then choose action verbs as the principal things I will work on – the methods I will employ to propel me forward. I noticed in your post that Jon Gordon’s single words of this type: SURRENDER, SERVE, PRAY, RISE, FORGIVE.

Thank you Connie for the enlightenment.

Yes, Steve and I even chose a single word for myself this year – Service. Thank you for your comment.

I’m just now catching up with this fine article on the Ides of March! Maybe I heard this idea before, but it did not sink in until now. Three words is too many for me right now. What I need is this one: Continue. Don’t fall off the bus because a shiny new thing came into view. Continue with the good program I’m on now. Thank you, Connie.
