What to Do When You Encounter Annoying Hiccups and Discouraging Bumps
This is a guest post from Ruth Anita Foote…
One step in front of the other. Focus. One step in front of the other. Focus. One step…
The successful path to info product creation means to keep going even when you’re unsure, tired, overwhelmed, and definitely, cannot see any light at the end of the tunnel. You know there is a purpose to your journey. But at times, it seems as if you cannot quite grasp it and reel it in. Instead of bringing your product or project to fruition, you find yourself challenged because it keeps expanding due to annoying hiccups and discouraging bumps along the way.
What has been a blessing is knowing—and reminding yourself constantly—that others have been down this path before, and that they have succeeded in scoffing at the same hiccups and bumps. They did not let them get in their merry way. They were confident that the light would start shining through. And so must you be, too.
We often wonder why does it seem so much easier for others? Such thoughts usually coincide with preparations for our preliminary pity party. We even wonder why do our bumps seem more like boulders?
What has been great about being in Connie Ragen Green’s Mentoring Progam is that you have the inspiration and support of others, and we are always learning from one another on a regular basis. We realize that everyone encounters such hiccups and bumps, and such encounters are a normal part of our journey whether we are creating a simple or detailed information product.
What has been a blessing when it comes to Connie, herself, is that we have a professional and very successful guide who has encountered bigger hiccups and bumps than us, and has fallen not once or twice but many times along the path. She is open and frank and shares her journey(s) with us. She has had many. Yet with every hiccup, bump and fall, Connie has let us know that she simply dusted herself off and got up, and continued her journey with one step in front of the other. Her book, The Road Trip: An Entrepreneur’s Journey of Self-Discovery, available at https://amzn.to/3XQJ4PD, is just one example of how she overcame, literally and figuratively, hiccups and bumps along the way. She is a testament that it can be done, and it can be done successfully.
We realize that it does not matter what type of product or project we are working on, or whether or not, we consider it as simple or complex. What matters is that we understand—and accept—that success awaits all of us at the end of the path. We also understand that there will be wider and longer paths, with more hiccups and boulders, that we will conquer in our lifetime.
And we accept that each path, each journey, begins with one step in front of the other. Focus.
I have learned to sidestep, and kick a few bumps to the curb, along the way also. Connie’s guidance has led to the updated relaunch and first paperbook version of my For Shakespeare’s Stepchildren: 10 Essential Writing Tips and Techniques: Secrets of Successful Writers, available at https://amzn.to/4eqtlhd. It offers a wealth of simple knowledge and practical advice to enhance your writing skills, and is based upon my many years as a writer and journalist. Let my short read become your go-to guide to becoming a successful writer.
Let today be the day that we take action and put one step in front of the other. Our journey to our first information product can even begin with a baby step. All we have to do is remember to focus.
And take that next step.
