You may already know the story of how and why I came online at the end of 2005. I had been a classroom teacher for almost 20 years, and was working as a real estate broker and residential appraiser after school, on weekends, and during school vacations. I was exhausted and did not see how my life could change. I had also survived cancer and a serious injury, making each day even more dfficult for me. I decided to leave it all behind to come online. By 2006 I had resigned from the school district, leaving me without paid medical coverage or a pension, and had also begun to give away my best real estate clients to others still working in the field.
I was alone and not sure what to do next.
It was a struggle that first year, and I didn’t make any money at all. Well, actually I did make $21.60 from the sale of an affiliate product, but 2006 was the year where I had to decide what to do if I wanted to keep my home and not have to go bankrupt.
In 2007 Pat O’Bryan published his book entitled Your Portable Empire – How To Make Money Anywhere While Doing What You Love. I think I read it three times through without putting it down. I have it my lap as I am writing now. I even named my dog Kali, after the character in Hindu mythology that represents the necessary cycle of destruction and creation. Pat explains that this means you have to make room in your life if you’re going to attract something new. That makes sense.
This summer I joined Pat for his coaching program. He brought together 100 people who wanted to build their own portable empire. I figured if Pat could take me to six figures a year just by reading his book, his personal coaching would have to be impressive. It is – beyond my wildest dreams. He really gets down to your Inner Game, the only thing that really matters. We are a community, a tribe, a village.
Pat is promoting the people from the group with a showcase of their products. Some of the people are exactly where I was in 2006, when I had no clue about how I was going to make ‘this internet marketing thing’ work. Some of the people are more advanced, because we have been following Pat’s teachings a little longer. Visit the products page and see what you think. Its really quite magical.

Isn’t it amazing, Connie, how the RIGHT people just seem to come into our lives at the time we truly need them to show up? You came into my life at the moment I was more than ready to say “phooey!” on building a business online. To echo Karen Kay’s thoughts, you are a beautiful inspiration.
BIG wishes for continued success in 2010,
Melanie
