Why I’m Ready to Go Back to the Future…Mindfully
For over a decade now I have chosen a word or phrase as my theme of the year. For the year 2021 my theme is “Back to the Future…Mindfully.” Now that we have entered the second decade of the new millennium I decided it was time to review and reflect, and then more forward with warp speed. But this will not be effective if I do so in a manner that is not organized and well thought out. Instead, I intend to take every day in a way that ensures I am being mindful in my words and actions.
What does back to the future mindfully really mean? To me, it denotes a time to step into my power and move forward with my biggest goals and wildest dreams. I want it, I’ve worked for it, and I deserve it. I believe this is true for you as well. The question then becomes “Are you ready to live out loud, in a way that will impact others in your life and business?” Well, are you?
The year 2020 was one for the record books. Not unprecedented, it had been just over a hundred years since we entered the previous pandemic in 2018. Just as it was so long ago, people disagreed about mask wearing, staying away from others (now referred to as “social distancing,” and how to work together to bring the worst of it to an end.
We have all put our lives on hold during this time. Plans were changed, then cancelled, then rescheduled. We went online more than ever before to rekindle friendships, take up a new pastime, and find out what was going on outside of our protected bubble. We got to know the people we live with more deeply than we ever imagined would be possible. We took up routines and schedules that included self-care and naps and exercising indoors or very close to home more than at any time in our lives.
We focused on our own needs, sometimes to the exclusion of the needs of others on our planet. If felt right, as though we had to do things differently in order to save our lives. We survived; we’re thriving; we’re ready to move forward, back to the future. Mindfully is the only way to do this to ensure our physical and mental health, in my opinion.
Now it’s time to stop contemplating our navels and to start serving others in a bigger way than ever before. I have clients who have squandered a year of their precious time by worrying about what might happen instead of making something incredible happen. It’s truly as simple as that, when you shift your thinking and mindset away from yourself and out to others.
I’m an author, publisher, public speaker, and entrepreneur. This means that most of my work is done in solitude as I prepare for the twenty or so percent of the time when I’m “on.” Throughout the past year my goal and intention was to find the joy in the daily tasks of writing, creating, and marketing so that I could save the best for my times in front of my audience virtually. My results speak for themselves as my business grows to a new level I did not believe was possible for me at this time. I’ve experienced more of everything – more speaking engagements, more writing published, more clients and people joining my mentor program, and more income. It was a chance for me to grow as a human and give back to others who would benefit from my knowledge and experience.
I’m sharing my 2021 theme of “Back to the Future…Mindfully” with you in hopes of reaching you at a level that will be beneficial for you both personally and professionally. Look for the volunteer opportunities within your community. Reach out to friends and colleagues, near and far. And do what you do best in a way that is safe and meaningful and worthwhile, to yourself and to those who can only hear your message from you. Be ready to blast off to outer space and beyond by going back to the future, mindfully this time around.
