Writing an ebook is like most any other type of writing. You first must find your voice. I will give you an example of what I mean by this.
Years ago I was working on a novel. I was accepted into a Master Writing class at UCLA where we shared and critiqued each other’s writing. I will never forget the first time I was invited to read a few pages of my book in front of the group. My novel was set in Florida, where I had lived for many years. It was a murder mystery with many plot twists. After I read the instructor, a well known writer from Canada, told me that it sounded like something written by Elmore Leonard. I beamed with pride because Leonard was, and still is, one of my favorite fiction authors.
It was only weeks later, as this Master class progressed, that I realized she had not intended for that to be taken as a compliment. My work had taken on the voice of someone else. I needed to find my own voice. I encourage you to spend the time to find your voice. The more you write, the faster it will happen. Once you find it your writing will flow like a gentle downward stream.
