Are you writing and publishing content in your niche? You can achieve great success with your online business by beginning to think of yourself as a creator and publisher of ‘how-to’ information. Even if you have never written anything longer than an email, do not feel you are truly an expert in anything, and do not have the first clue about how to get started with this, you can become an author and a publisher within your own business.
My love of writing began while I was still in elementary school. I dreamed of writing books and magazine articles. When I was in the sixth grade my teacher asked me to write an article for our school newspaper about what it was like to be moving on to junior high. This was my big break, but it didn’t go very well. I couldn’t think of anything to write, and what I finally turned in was just a few paragraphs about what I thought it would be like to ride the bus to school instead of walking each day. I do not even remember when it was published in the school newspaper, probably because I was not proud of what I had written.
This setback did not deter me from continuing to dream of life as an author. By the time I started college I had decided that writing scripts for situation comedies, screenplays, and movies for television was exactly what I wanted to do, and I began to take classes to learn the precise structure for this. I lived in Los Angeles, so it was simple to attend live tapings of the shows and to visit the sets while they were taping or filming. I even completed several scripts, but they never made it to the people who were the decision makers in the television and movie industry.
When I look back at this time, I realize that I did not take the time to do the writing, and that I gave up as soon as something new came along. I did not become a published author, and for the next twenty years I worked in other fields.
Writing and publishing on the Internet is very different. I began writing articles, short reports, and eBooks when I came online in 2007, and I was able to use my interests and life experiences to help other people to achieve their goals. My writing gave me both credibility and visibility, and my list began to grow.
The difference is that now I am in the ‘how-to’ writing niche, and there are people around the world who benefit from reading what I have written. I have also published a full length book that sells on Amazon (see the picture on the right), and it is now also available for the Kindle. This month I created an audio book on CD that teaches people how to use affiliate marketing to get started online. At no cost, and with minimal effort, I have become a published author!
You can do the same exact thing. Choose a topic that you have some experience with, such as selling a home when the market is down or buying a used car or boat. Start with articles, and provide as much information as possible on your topic. Write as though you were telling a friend how to do what you have done. Submit the articles to the free article directories, such as Ezine Articles, and include a resource box at the end of each one that invites the reader back to your site to find out more.
If you really do not like to write, create an audio book on CD, as I did this month. Then have it transcribed so that you will have the written content. You will find that for every hour you speak about your topic it ends up being about thirty to forty pages of written material.
When it comes to doing the research for this type of writing, remember that the ‘how-to’ niche is based on your own experiences. This means that research time is minimal. Yes, you will want to make sure you have accurate facts and resources. When it comes to the actual content, which comes from the knowledge and information you already have in your head.
The final step is to think of yourself as a publisher of this ‘how-to’ content. You will want to offer it for sale as short reports, eBooks, home study courses, and more. You will end up having information in many different niches over time, and this allows you to diversify what you sell.
Amazon’s Create Space is the fastest and easiest way to publish your content, and it is completely free to do so. You can also make your short reports and eBooks available on Amazon’s Kindle, the fastest growing form of content distribution currently available. You are the one in charge, and there has never been a time in history until now where we can all become authors and publishers.

I like this topic because if you write about topics that you are an expert at and your prospects are interested in it, then bingo!!!

And now certainly is one of the most advantageous times
to get our content published online.
There are some many extremely low cost alternatives,
that the usual start up capital needed, is no longer
a valid issue and or major concern!
Thanks so much for reminding us!
