In order for people to join your list you will need to give them something related to your topic. It used to be that people would sign up to receive your newsletter, but those days are long gone. Just about everyone has a newsletter, so you will want to be more creative with your free giveaway. The ethical bribe you give to your prospects in return for their name and email address must be relevant to your specific niche topic, should be easily downloadable, and should contain the next logical steps for them to take action with you.
Make sure what you are giving away relates specifically to what you have to offer. This may sound like common sense, but it is not nearly as common as you might think. If your niche is training small dogs, offer tips on housebreaking or excessive barking. This would more than likely be something your target audience would be interested in knowing more about. You would not want to offer them a video on how to find the right keywords; this would be incongruent with your message.
Your giveaway must be easily downloadable. Whether it is an audio recording, a video, or a short report, make sure your prospects can easily click one button to receive it. It is just too frustrating when we sign up to receive free information and then have difficulty accessing it. Also, send an additional email with these download instructions in case the first email does not arrive or is mistakenly deleted.
What do you want them to do next? This is the question you must ask yourself. Once someone has joined your list, you must now provide the next steps for them to achieve their goals. Whether they want to train their dog, lose weight, or build an Internet business, guide them as to what to do next. You may want them to attend a teleseminars you will be giving, read a post on your blog, or sign up for your home study course. Whatever that next step might be, ask them to take action and provide the details on how they can do that.
As you can see, there is more to offering a free giveaway that you may have first thought. Make it relevant to your topic, easily downloadable, and give them the next logical step to take action, and you will have prospects that turn into raving fans and clients.
