Marketing – Building Your Online Empire With Targeted Marketing

When you think of the word marketing, what comes to mind? Sales? Advertsing? Someone trying to get you to spend money when you would really prefer to say no? These all seem to be so negative, so I’ll share with you what I preceive marketing to be.

Marketing is the process of identifying the people who are most likely to be interested in who you are and what you have to offer them, and then communicating with these people regularly.

This is what I do when I meet people in person or online. I find out if they are interested in what I have to offer them at this time, and then I offer it to them on a regular basis, in different formats, so they are able to make an educated decision to spend their time and money with me.

Learn about marketing and your business will become easier and more fun. What are you offering that will solve someone’s problem or give them a solution to what they are searching for? Who are these people and where will you find them?

I have a friend, a former teacher who has now retired, who detests sales and marketing. She told me that one day last fall while we were having brunch. I simply nodded, sipping my orange juice and not saying a word. Two minutes later she asked me to pass her the part of the Sunday newspaper where Sears had it pull-out section. She wanted to see what the store had on sale so that she could decide whether she would go there later in the day.

I hope you can see the humor and irony in this. She was saying how much she hated to be sold and marketed to, and then chose to be sold and marketed to by a company that she has a connection with. This store has items she wants, and she has come to trust them over time. You can do the same thing in your business. Offer people what they want, build rapport with them, and they will purchase from you again and again. This is marketing, and it is a very important part of any society. I have been studying marketing from Armand Morin this past year, and I now see it in a very different light.
