I don’t write or speak about this topic very often, but writing articles and blogging for small businesses accounts for about 20% of my income. You can do the same thing and get paid while you learn more about building your own business.
When I was justing starting back in 2005 and 2006, I offered to do some writing for a small business owned by a family member. He was spending about five hundred dollars a month on ads in his local newspaper and complaining that his phone was not ringing enough.
I did some research and started a blog about his company. Within a month he was getting calls from prospects who had found the blog, and he then began giving me the money instead. I added article marketing and press releases and within two more months the local paper ran a story about him and his business. He lives in California in a city of about 200,000 people, so this was very exciting.
Soon other small business owners were contacting me to do the same thing for them. The local hamber of Commerce asked me to speak to their members about this topic. By then my own online business was taking off, so I decided I would only do this for three businesses, and devote the rest of my time to my own activities.
There is a huge need for this type of work. If you enjoy finding out about a business, writing articles, blogging, and using social media (that was not around when I first started!), you will be able to earn more than fifty dollars an hour to begin with. After a few months of making the phone ring you can easily double that amount.

This type of work would be perfect for me! Great to hear there’s a huge need. How do you go about finding these opportunities, Connie? Thanks.
