Once you have even a few names and email addresses of prospects you will need to write to them. Staying in touch with your list is crucial if you are going to be doing business on the Internet, but many times new entrepreneurs are hesitant because they aren’t sure what to say. They also tend to send confusing emails, meaning that they are long and contain too much information on too many subjects. You will want to get started with list marketing in the correct way in order to maximize your profit potential.
No matter where you are right now, make a plan and a schedule to stay in regular contact with the people on your list. It is always a subject of controversy as to how often you should send out emails, but I will tell you that when I went from once or twice each week to three or four times each week my income went up dramatically. This was a part of my plan to let my prospects know more about what I am doing online and how it can be of benefit to them. Whatever you decide is best for you, be consistent with the amount of information you communicate in your email messages.
Another thing that is extremely important is to only include one message in an email. It can be very tempting to include two or three things in one email message. We do this with our friends and family all of the time. One email will include details of the next time we will see each other, a joke or video link we want to share, and a question about something that happened last week.
Remember that you must have both your copywriter’s hat on when you write emails to your list, so stick to the topic and be clear about your message. Email is copy, so think like a copywriter when you are writing. The marketing piece of this is so you will ask the reader to take action in each email. Another thing to remember is to write to them about the topic they originally opted in for. Many new marketers seem to forget this, and the next thing you know they are sending emails on very different topics. This often leads to people unsubscribing from your list.
I do something I refer to as three by three by three. This means that I will send three emails over a period of three to five days on one topic. In each email I include the link three times. I also use three mediums, so email is one, posting to my blog may be another, and posting on Twitter or Facebook is yet another. This has worked well in helping me to extend my reach and increase my visibility on the Internet. It has also increased my bottom line.
