You may already know that I promote several small businesses by using the same techniques and methods I teach to people working exclusively online. These are local businesses, and include plumbers, insurance agents, and a handyman. Whether you own a small business or want to promote your own small business, marketing on the internet works. For a small business, my goal is to make their phone ring.
First I find out everything I can about the business – the geographical area they serve, their ideal client, and the services they provide. Then I purchase a domain name and set up a blog for them, either on Typepad hosted WordPress. After posting about 10 times, I claim the blog on Technorati. Does this sound familiar? It is exactly what I teach my students to do when they are first starting an online business.
I then write articles about the service they provide. For example, I might write an article about how to savemoney on homeowner’s insurance if I am writing an article for the insurance agent. Article marketing is a great way to rank high on Google for your niche, enabling many people to find you easily. Including your city name will make it even more targeted.
Facebook and Twitter come next (be sure to follow me @ConnieGreen if you aren’t already), and I make sure they have a presence on each of these social networking sites.
Then I interview the owner and some of the employees to find out more about what the company offers its clients. I record these interviews and make them available for prospective clients to hear for months to come.
During a downturn in the economy, market your small business online and see how you can make the phone ring!
