Storytelling has become a huge part of how I do business online. I never thought of this as a viable source of new and continued business until I was convinced to teach a class on using stories in your online business. That was in 2009, and now I use this marketing strategy on a regular basis to connect with my prospects and form deeper relationships with my clients.
I recommend only telling stories you are comfortable in sharing with the world. Everything you do on the Internet goes out into cyberspace, so keep that in mind when you use a story to make a point in your writing or on a teleseminar. I recently shared the story of how I could not attend the ceremony my former husband went through when he became a United States citizen in 2003. I was still working at a job, and they would not give me the afternoon off. I was sharing this because someone on my training call asked about the benefits of working for yourself as an online entrepreneur.
Most of my stories make a point, rather than just entertaining the people who hear them. I like using real life examples of why a particular strategy works in my Internet business, or how to increase your bottom line by thinking of a situation that relates to what you do online. Storytelling will build your business because people remember us for the stories we share. When you think about anyone, no matter what field they are in, you will remembers the stories about them much more than the details of their business. Use this strategy in your own business to see how well it works.

Hi Connie! I agree with you that people will remember us by the storyies we tell. Which reminds me…Once upon a time there were 3 internet marketers on a deserted island…Have a great day! Robby

Connie,
I never had to be encouraged to tell stories – it comes very naturally to me. What I have tried to do is to tell the story, then relate it to something which can be of benefit to the readers, even if it isn’t directly “selling” something. My hope is that if people find me interesting or inspiring enough, they will pay attention to my products. We are starting to see some success, but the jury is still out. I will continue to look to you for wisdom and encouragement. Thanks for being you.
Jeanne

I’ve been using “story telling’ during this blog challenge. The highest stats are coming from posts where I have related a story. I love story telling.
