One of my students wrote to me about an affiliate product he was promoting. He had done everything I had taught him about promoting this other person’s product, but his sales were very low. We finally got to the bottom of this when I asked him to direct me to the salesletter through his affiliate link.
It turned out that he was not ‘cloaking’ or ‘masking’ his affiliate link. This made it easy for people to purchase the product without going through him. Here is what I recommended to him in order to remedy this situation.
He was going to be writing articles to promote the product, so I had him purchase a domain name. Then he forwarded and masked this domain name to his affiliate link. When he was promoting it on Facebook, Twitter, and on his blog I had him shorten the link with a custom servicing site. I have been using budurl.com for this, but there are other free services that do this as well.
Make sure you are taking these steps so that you do not lose any well-deserved commissions.
