I can remember two years ago when I was just starting to build my list. As people began to give me their name and email address in exchange for my free report on eBook and article writing and marketing, I kept track of each and every one. And when the first person asked to be removed from my list, I took it very hard. I wanted to know what I had done, and what I could do to get them back. I would be upset for days, until someone new would opt in.
It is very different now. I am still excited and thankful when someone new joins my list, but I realize that they may not be interested enough in what I am teaching online to stay on my list forever. Today someone named Marie unsubscribed. That’s when we first began emailing back and forth.
Marie had been looking for free information on selling her writing. She does not want to spend any money to build a business because she believes that the internet is free. I did not want to disagree with her, but she did the right thing by unsubscribing from my list.
Make sure you are clear about what you are offering to others through your blog or website. I do offer a free teleseminar every week, but I am also in business. Most of what I have to offer is for sale.
What I found most interesting about Marie is that this was the first time she had connected with me. She is not on Twitter or Facebook, and has never asked a question during one of my free weekly teleseminars. Please know that I am very easy to contact. You can reply to one of my emails and I will personally write back to you. You can also follow me on Twitter and I will follow you back. Tell me that you are on my list and i will answer any questions you have about building an online empire.
