The internet has grown so quickly that suddenly we have people from around the world who are ready and willing to do business with us. But do we really know who they are?
One of my students heard me talking about someone I had recently connected with online. This person knew other people that I know personally, and appeared to be completely legitimate. However, on closer inspection, it turned out that this was someone who had already been in trouble with the law for internet related activities.
Before you sign up for anyone’s program, or buy from them online, just spend a few minutes and ‘Google’ their name. Everything is there. Look for statements that are contradictory, or stories that change from month to month. The thing I love most about working online is that everyone and everything is transparent. Make sure to watch out for yourself and you will have more success and better relationships while working on the internet.

Hi Connie!
This is a good post – checking up is really easy and it is interesting how this transpanency is good for folks that want to play fair…..

Thanks for the tip. Brand reputation (/ personal repuation) is now becoming a key part of an online marketing strategy.

Richard is right. I hope people do check me out. And my company as well. That’s why I am online, so people can research me. For people to do business with me they should know who I am. I think it gives me credibility.
