When I was getting started online in 2006, I knew it was imperative to have a free giveaway to get people to sign up on my list. In years past, people were excited just to receive an email, so getting them to join your list, with the promise of receiving regular email from you, was fairly easy. We all know those days have long since passed.
You most likely receive hundreds of emails from people wanting you to sign up for something or to purchase their latest product. This type of ‘push’ marketing, or ‘interruption’ marketing, just doesn’t work if you are trying to build your online business. Your best prospects are those you find you and request the information you are offering.
Back in 2006 I saw this coming and realized I needed a better way to reach my ideal clients. I created an e-course that people could receive when they opted in to my list. It was very popular and I was able to lay a solid foundation for the business I have today.
Each day, for seven days, one of my e-course lessons was delievered by autoresponder. I gave helpful tips and information to get them started with online writing and technology. At the end of some of these lessons I gave a link to an affiliate product or service that was directly related to my lesson. I began to build my list and started making money.
I encourage you to write an e-course for your niche, and use it as your free giveaway when people opt in at your blog. Each lesson only needs to be a few paragraphs long, and will position you as an expert in your field.

What a great idea Connie! I hope to have my Organize4Life.com up this weekend and now I know what to put in my Opt-in box. Thanks for all your help. Lauren
