When I was just starting out online back in 2005, I knew that I had to do something to get people to come to my blog. I did not have the money or the expertise to do pay per click advertising, and I didn’t even have a product for sale yet, so I knew that writing and submitting articles would be the best way for me to get traffic.
You have to remember, this was before Twitter, so it wasn’t like I could just tell thousands of people about my latest blog post. So I started writing an article every single day, and the backlinks from the article directory to my blog brought me visitors as well as search engine ranking.
Writing articles needs to be part of your daily routine for your online business. Make a list of topics you want to write about, and then choose one each day. My article are between 250 and 400 words, and I first submit them to Ezine Articles, the largest online article directory. Then I submit them to a service called Article Marketer, where they will be distributed all over the internet.
It takes a couple of months to see any big results, but once you get into the habit of writing and submitting one new article every day your business will take off. You can also repurpose the articles into blog posts, teleseminars, short reports, eBooks, and, my favorite, you can tweet the entire article over at Twitter.

Connie,
Love your idea of creating the discipline of writing articles daily. I’m working up to a consistent once a week routine of article writing, but your post is encouraging me to think about more. The fact that I’ve gotten into a rhythm of blogging five times a week, and established that discipline, means I can do the same for article writing.
Thanks for your great insights!
