When you think about working on your online business, are you looking forward to it? When I wake up in the morning I am filled with joy and excitement, knowing that I will be doing what I love and making an excellent living at the same time. I believe it is the passion I have for writing, teaching, and connecting with people from around the world that makes me so successful. I have found that others who feel this way are also doing very well in their own businesses.
The salon where I get my hair cut is filled with people who are excited about being there and doing what they do. We laugh together and share events from our lives. They are excited to hear about my latest travels to speak at another event, and I love hearing about what they have learned at a hair show they have attended. Over the past few years there has been no talk of a recession here, because they were all too busy taking care of their clients and learning new things. I tell everyone I know about this salon, and have referred quite a few new customers since I started going there in 2007. Will your online prospects and clients feel the same way about you, or will they get the feeling you just want to make money?
For almost twenty years I worked in schools where many of the teachers did not like children. Our precious little clients spent their days with adults who wanted to be somewhere else. I loved being in the classroom with the kids. They knew how much fun I was having and how much I cared about them, and our test results showed it. It’s pretty hard to inspire people to do their best when you don’t even want to come to work.
When I started online at the end of 2006 I made a study of those who appeared to be doing well. They were excited about what they were doing, and that excitement spilled over into their writing, their training, and their products. I knew I could be successful as well, simply because I loved the day to day activities that were required in this business.
Are you passionate about what you are doing on the Internet? It’s a choice, and you can choose to work in any niche that makes you feel happy and alive. I wanted to teach Internet marketing to new entrepreneurs. I was a new entrepreneur myself, so during that first year I learned as much as I could. Then I was ready to pass on that knowledge to others coming up after me. The result is that I’m having more fun and making more money than I ever thought possible.
On July 23-25 Jeanette Cates and I will be holding our next Online Revenue Workshop. Jeanette’s been online since the mid 90’s, and is even more passionate about what she does than I am. Sometimes she emails me at midnight with an idea of how she can help her students achieve greater success. She knows that I will appreciate that excitement and share my ideas with her as well. We want to build a business for you that will make you want to get up in the morning and get started. Maybe you can’t bottle enthusiam and positive believing, but our students feel that we can. Join us in Las Vegas and change your online business life forever.

Thanks Connie Im interested in your workshop.

It is great to do what you love and your writings show your enthusiasm. I don’t know how you continue to come up with fresh ideas and topics, but you are always pulling a new thought from your hat. I know the Las Vegas event will be a life changing time for students who do what you say. Write on!

I always wake up feeling like I have SO MUCH to do in my business. But as I design and make products, I continually find myself asking if I’ve included everything I can about my topic and if there are better ways to explain things or to help people understand or to add more value…so I guess you’d call that passion.
I just want to make people feel like they got a good deal when they purchase something and know that I’ve done my best to provide them everything I can.
I’ve learned so much from you this year, Connie…thanks!
Todd

I could feel your passion, I got goose bumps! I believe loving what you do and having a passion is the best way to create a win-win business! I love that you brought up we have to make sure we are doing what we love and not just to make money. When we need to make money, and we all do, we need to make sure that is the secondary focus and put our clients wants and needs over the revenue that is possible.
I want to be present to that and I may have been focusing on the dollar amount I’d like to make at the end of the month without meaning to. I will certainly keep my eye first on why I am doing this business and second on the successful income that is possible! Thank you for your inspiration Connie! I feel a new sense of energy and I am excited!!!

Wow, being able to choose what I really like to do and make money doing it will take a bit of getting use to. I heard you say something similar on our m-12 call, and also on Helen Rappy’s teleseminar and it takes that repetition to get through my thick skull sometimes.
I always remember my stepfather tell me I might live to regret quitting a minimum wage job because of how jobs are so hard to come by. Doing what you love or are enthusiastic about doing, was not part of his life experience and therefore it never became part of mine until I got older.
I think I’ll spend the day reviewing what I’m doing and see if it is congruent with my inner child or kindergarten excitement and enthusiasm as you like to tak about.

Thanks Connie for your ‘from the heart’ message. As for the teachers of the world who read your blog post, please love your job for the sake of our children, if not, there are other passions to pursue. As for the rest of us, lets continue to find our passion and pursue our dreams. Thanks Connie for the inspiration! We have the freedom to choose our passion – lets use it.

Hi Connie,
I too have a passion to teach people about the healing power of music. I am so enthusiastic and have created info-products, articles galore, blogs galore and even got a patent on my headphones for surgery. Still, I am not making a living online although I spend hours and hours a day online doing articles, blogs and social media? Is it my niche that is just not known about? What is it?

From the day I joined your article marketing site and Jeanette Cates incubator I have awaken each morning with a desire and passion to learn as much as I can, there just isn’t enough time in my day anymore.
The connection you make with your students is what makes you and us successful. I can’t wait to get started with the 6 Pak. July 7th can’t get here fast enough for me.

Thanks to everyone for your comments. I can feel the excitement growing! I know this is a holiday weekend, both in the United States and Canada, and sometimes we have even more time to think about our businesses during a busy time. When I am serving pancakes at the Rotary pancake breakfast and putting the finishing touches on our float for the parade, I’ll be thinking about how this is all related to what I am doing online.

such a great post explaining how your thoughts and attitudes affect your life. You wrote “Over the past few years there has been no talk of a recession here, because they were all too busy taking care of their clients and learning new things.” The more people talk about recession, the more they are likely to bring bad times into their life. When you talk about good things and things you have some control over, then you’re likely to bring that into your life.
What a great story!

You always give us the best of yourself and for that I am always grateful. I never have to wonder if you are holding back something. Even though I get weary sometimes, I’m never lacking that joy and passion that comes from building my business. Thank you for being a well-spring of encouragement.

An inspiring post Connie. I understand what you say about ‘no talk of recession’. We can talk ourselves into it (and we did) and we can talk ourselves out of it (which may or may not be happening). Those who are passionate and positive will undoubtedly still thrive.
Good luck in Las Vegas – too far for me, I’m afraid!
best wishes

Connie, I must say it took me a while to begin “loving” internet marketing. Who knew there was sooo much to learn! You don’t know what you don’t know.
Now I find that I literally can’t sleep at night because I am so excited about my projects and the possibilities. I wake up at 3:00a.m. and my mind starts whirling. Finally, I get up and head to my computer to work for a while. Then I can head back to bed for a little more sleep.
Frankly, I do not understand how you have time to do as much as you do.
Warmly,
Mary Ann

From reading your post, I am getting more excited about my business and I always remember your words “If I can you do it – anybody can. Thank you so much for sharing.

Thanks Connie, Loving what you do – and whom you do it for – is the only way to go. What I find can really help is a task list that tells me in the morning “Today, you have these 5 things to accomplish.” Accomplishment is great fuel for passion. If morning arrives with a sense of dread, “I have so much to do that I don’t know where to start!”, then the first task is the Task List! Thanks for lighting the way!

Connie, I love my Internet business and am so excited to watch it grow. Sometimes I have difficulty focusing on my offline business because I get so wrapped up in this business. Trying my very best to move my entire business online I have been working on this for a few months now. Great post.

Connie,
when I attended the last Online Revenue Builders workshop in Las Vegas, I just followed a hunch that this might be just what I need and possibly be life changing. I had no idea how much this would be true. I couldn’t believe how passionate you ladies were about sharing everything you know about online business. You even added a few hours unannounced the next day, when we were supposed to just “socialize and network”, when you realized that we had more questions for you. it was an amazing experience that I highly recommend to anybody who hasn’t seen you and Jeannette life and “at work”.
I have since gone back and revisited part of our recordings and continue to do so, as you have shared so much that there is always something else to learn and implement.
You ladies are amazing, and I am very grateful for all that you do.

Connie,
Wow, what a lot of comments, which makes what you are saying all the more powerful. My favorite word is passion. You could almost say that passion is my profession. Reawakening passion in others, or allowing others to express their passion. The rout I take to do this is with creative writing, but when that’s your commitment, it shows up in all sorts of interesting places.
There have been days when I did not want to get up to do what I was to do but the more I design my life around doing what I love to do, the more passion I have for it all.
Thanks again for a passionate article!
Kim Miller says
Thanks for the great post, Connie! I was already feeling the passion for what I do and then I read your post! Wow, so timely.
You see when I woke up this morning I was struck by the thought of how grateful I am that my husband and I are able to be particular in choosing to work with more higher paying clients in our video production side of our business (which is booming by the way!) because of the steady stream of residual income from our online video publishing business. We don’t feel worried that if we say no to an assignment that will require a lot of work with little pay because we know we’ll have money in the back every month. It’s such a freedom that we now teach and coach others to do the same thing. I lose sleep now just thinking about all the great ideas I have for my business.
I think it was because I went to a retirement party last night and I realized how I am so blessed that I’m not counting the days until mine. I’m living it now!
Our local newspaper is soliciting stories from those adversely affected by the recession. I’m going to write to them to do an article on all of us who are doing well instead!

Hi Connie,
You said it all. It is quite strange when people say ‘what has passion got to do with owning a business’. To me passion is everything. It is the motivator, the energizer. My passion is why i gave up a six figure paying job to work full time in my business.
Thank you for being such a ‘go giver’ with the way you share your infos.
Regards,
Pamela

This topic is resonating with so many people. I’ll be answering more questions about this on my next http://AskConnieAnything.com call on Tuesday. We must lead by example and love every minute of what we do. I knew exactly what to outsource after I’d been online for a year; it was submitting articles to many directories and writing code for websites. I have several hours of each of these activities that needs to be done every week, and I prefer to let people do it who are passionate about that. My passion lies in writing, teaching, and creating new products and sites. Pursue your passion and the money certainly does follow.

Great Post! If you could bottle your enthusiasm you could call it passion. Seriously, even when we run into problems, it easy to stay motivated when you watch everyone else starting their daily commute to a job. Owning your own business is not a job – it’s an adventure.
Bob Crawford says
Great post Connie, your passion really does show in all of your work. Having passion and enthusiasm are so important, not only in our online businesses, but in everything we do. From our relationships to our health, we only give our all when we are passionate about our results. Doing what you love is a big part of that!
Mynders Glover says
Connie: What a great display, in that post, of the passion you bring to our frequent coaching sessions. Thanks.
