Yesterday I was contacted by a man who lives in Pennsylvania. He was referred to me by someone who had taken one of my writing courses last year. This man has written an ebook and was hoping to sell it online. It has been almost a year now and he isn’t making any sales. I had him send me a copy of the ebook so I could get an idea of his niche, target audience and writing style.
The ebook is very well written. It is 96 pages long and provides lots of good information on his topic. I then asked him where one could go to purchase this ebook online. He gave me a link to a page that had AdSense along the top, a weak headline, and no real call to action. There was a link to pay with PayPal, but that was it.
Writing your ebook is just one part of this entire process. Just as with traditional publishing, you must market yourself and your writing while you are writing. Finally, having a compelling sales page will make all of the difference in how many ebooks you are able to sell. Once you have a sales page with strong web copy, it will work for you around the clock to sell your ebook. I will be working with this man over the next few weeks to develop a sales page that will work for his niche. Copywriting is key with anything you are selling online.
