If you have been used to pinging your blog posts on a regular basis, you will be glad to hear that both Pingoat and Pingomatic are back after taking a summer hiatus. No one is sure why these sites were both down, but now you can again ping and post to your heart’s content.
Pinging your blog post refers to the process of notifying the search engines and blog directories that you have updated the content on your blog. This enables these services to index your blog much faster so that the content in your posts can be found more readily.
Make sure that your blog platform is not already pinging the search engines and directoies, or you will risk double pinging and not get the results you are looking for. To find out if a search engine, such as Google, knows about your blog, simply type the url of your blog into the search box and see if it comes up in the results.
The largest directory is Technorati, so make sure to start a free account there and claim your blog as soon as you have at least ten valuable, content filled posts on your blog.
